Dear Parents,

Welcome to Cos Cob School! It is the Mission of the Greenwich Public Schools to educate all students to the highest levels of academic achievement; to enable them to reach and expand their potential; and to prepare them to become productive, responsible, ethical, and creative and compassionate members of society. Cos Cob School is committed to providing your child with a safe, nurturing, and academically rigorous learning environment. We follow the District Norms of: Be Here, Be Safe, Be Honest, Care for Self and Others, and Let Go and Move On, which are infused within the culture of our school community.

Cos Cob School is considered a “neighborhood” school, which houses approximately 360 students ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. We span family generations, and it is not unusual for our staff to welcome a kindergarten student and learn that the student’s parents, grandparents, and, in some cases, great-grandparents attended Cos Cob School. The diversity of the school reflects that of the Cos Cob neighborhood and enhances the school community and learning.

Fire destroyed the school in the summer of 1990, and although the fire was devastating, the manner in which the community rallied for the Cos Cob School students was nothing short of remarkable and is a testament of how we are truly a school community. We opened the doors to our newly built and present school in September of 1993.

Cos Cob School is a beautiful building with a center courtyard that features our butterfly garden and a quiet outdoor space, which is often used for learning opportunities. Our “cafetorium” is used for school productions and also functions as our lunchroom. Our oversized gym is fully equipped and is the base each year of an eight-week gymnastics program, which is a student favorite. We have been recognized on a state level for our Learning Commons and Innovation Space, which is a remarkable hands-on learning space providing opportunities for all students to design, create, imagine, and explore. It is also our media center, housing 18,000 books as well as green screen technology, which is used for our morning shows and student projects.

Cos Cob School enjoys strong traditions that have spanned the years, such as the May Fair, Halloween Parade, Veteran’s Day Celebration, and the 5th Grade Trip to Plymouth. We celebrate the arts and the curriculum with family events, musical concerts, Field Days, and much more! The PTA is pivotal in supporting these and many other PTA-sponsored activities so please make sure you become a member.

We provide a rich educational experience for all our students and take great pride in challenging, motivating, and nurturing each and every child. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our community. It is truly a partnership that we all value. Be sure to check out our website often, as you will find the latest information on school events and PTA functions, and please read my weekly newsletter. Between the website and the newsletter, you should be able to find everything you want to know and more. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
